About

Harley Benda is an award-winning multimedia journalist, anchor and producer.

She is from a small city in east-central Ohio called St. Clairsville, near the northern panhandle of West Virginia. She graduated from West Virginia University’s Reed College of Media, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism with a minor in Interactive Design for Media.

Harley started out in the TV news industry in 2021, becoming a multimedia journalist for WBOY-TV, a Nexstar Media Group station in Clarksburg, W.Va. She covered north-central West Virginia and even her college alma mater several times. After five months, Harley became the anchor and producer of the station’s weekend 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts, and soon after, she started to fill in for any show as an anchor when needed.

In June 2022, she provided coverage for West Virginia Nexstar stations regarding the death of Hershel “Woody” Williams, a north-central West Virginia native and WWII veteran who passed away at the age of 98. Her coverage awarded her a West Virginia Broadcaster’s Association Best Network Newscast award.

In July 2022, Harley became the morning co-anchor of 12 News Today, WBOY-TV’s 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. newscasts, while alternating anchoring 12 News at 12, the 12 p.m. newscast, with the other morning anchor.

As of Spring 2024, Harley works outside of the communications and storytelling industry but has aspirations to go back when the time is right.

Before her days at WBOY-TV, Harley was a freelance writer for The Dominion Post in Morgantown, W.Va., and helped with Morgantown Today, a public affairs show with WVU’s Reed College of Media.

Harley has extensive knowledge in AP ENPS, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop, LiveU, cameras, audio, lighting and more.
